We're excited to announce a significant addition to our rich node library: a dedicated library of Black Forest Labs Nodes!
Black Forest Labs is at the forefront of innovative AI image generation research. The new BlackForest Labs Nodes for Griptape Nodes bring cutting-edge generation and editing capabilities directly into your Griptape Nodes workflows via Black Forest Labs own API.
Using the Black Forest Labs API means there is no need for you to install any models locally. Even more importantly, you do not need to have access to a powerful GPU with a significant amount of VRAM to access these state-of-the-art image generation and editing capabilities.
There are three nodes in the Black Forest Labs Nodes for Griptape Nodes node library:
- FLUX Text-to-Image: provides access to the flux-pro-1.1-ultra, flux-pro-1.1, flux-pro & flux-dev text-to-image generation models with controls for aspect ratio and image size, the ability to specify the seed for generation, a toggle for Raw Mode, a safety tolerance control, and to teh ability to select jpeg or png output
- FLUX.1 Kontext Text-to-image: supports the flux-kontext-pro & flux-kontext-max models, and provides controls for aspect ratio, seed, prompt upsampling, safety tolerance, and to select jpeg or png output
- FLUX.1 Kontext Image Edit: supports image editing with the flux-kontext-pro & flux-kontext-max models. To use this node you must provide an input image together with a prompt. This node provides the same controls as the FLUX.1 Kontext Text-to-image node.
Getting started
To get started with the Black Forest Labs Nodes for Griptape Nodes simply follow these steps:
- Register for Griptape Nodes at www.griptapenodes.com and install and start the engine on your computer. You will be prompted to visit https://app.nodes.griptape.ai/ to access the Griptape Nodes editor.
- Visit https://github.com/griptape-ai/griptape-nodes-library-blackforestlabs and follow the installation instructions in the README in that repository. If you need help, join us in the #nodes-public-preview channel on the Griptape Discord
- Register for a Black Forest Labs account at https://auth.bfl.ai/register
- Add credits to your Black Forest Labs account at https://dashboard.bfl.ai/
- Generate a Black Forest Labs API key, also at https://dashboard.bfl.ai/, and copy or save the API key for the next step.
- Open the settings menu in the Griptape Nodes editor. Select API Keys & Secrets in the left navigation bar of the settings menu. Select + Add Secret in the top right of this menu. Enter the name for the new secret as BFL_API_KEY and paste in the API key that you generated in the last step. Close the settings menu.
- Create a new workflow and select the Blackforestlabs section in the nodes menu to the left of the editor workspace. You are now ready to place nodes and to start experimenting with the Black Forest Labs image generation nodes.
For the example below, I used the FLUX Text-to-Image node with the flux-pro-1.1-ultra model, a 16:9 aspect ratio and the prompt below.
“Dynamic low-angle shot of skateboarder riding a glowing digital half-pipe toward sleek glass-and-steel Black Forest Labs. Cool steel blues, deep forest greens, neon orange, electric green highlights. Holographic AI art floats above ramp, chrome logo, pixel sparks, pine silhouettes, futuristic tech details blend with skate culture. Early morning mist, digital haze, vibrant cutting-edge energy, Nikon d850, fine film grain.”
I then added the FLUX.1 Kontext Image Edit node, and connected the output image from the FLUX Text-to-Image node to the input_image on the FLUX.1 Kontext Image Edit node. I added the prompt below
“turn the skateboarder and ramp into a snowboarder in a snowy half pipe”
I think these are great results with excellent text legibility. As you can see, with the Black Forest Labs Nodes, you're able to tap into advanced image generation and editing models and functionality, opening up new possibilities for sophisticated content generation.
This new node further emphasizes our commitment to providing a flexible and extensible platform. As with all Griptape Nodes, the Black Forest Labs Nodes can be seamlessly chained with other nodes, allowing you to create incredibly powerful and customized workflows. Imagine combining its advanced capabilities with image upscaling nodes or with multi-agent collaboration features for prompt generation and enhancement!
